OK folks, just emailed the ebay account with this:
Hi! Long time MYFer here. I noticed the auctions all tend to end at the same time for this tour. This puts me in a difficult position, as I'm planning on bidding for 4 cities (NY/NJ/CT/MA) With the current format, someone could snipe me at the last second if they just happen to pick the package I'm bidding on, but another could then be won for something less than I'm willing to pay (sorry, hard to explain exactly what I mean with limited space, but I tried to here: http://www.incubusview.com/messboard/viewtopic.php?t=30954&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=16 ), thus making this more of a luck of the draw than a who's willing to pay more. It could possibly reduce the MYF's income as well, if those willing to pay more happen to bid on the same package. Is it possible to end the next set of packages at 1 minute increments, as was the case with past M&G auctions? Thanks
Will post any replies I get (if they don't reply here... MYFtourguy we're lookin' at you! ) _________________ You can be on the right track and still get hit by a train. |

Got an answer, and as expected, they had no idea what I actually meant.
| Quote: | Thank you for your interest in the Incubus charity auction benefiting the Make Yourself Foundation.
For the items you want to bid on, you can enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay for that item (called a proxy). If you are outbid, eBay will place bids on your behalf in increments, up to your proxy. Please check out this link for automatic bidding here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/automatic-bidding.html
Please note as stated in each listing page: If you win more than one package, you must purchase all or you forfeit your winning bid on every package.
Kind regards,
Kompolt |
Thanks for the explanation of how ebay works, but that doesn't address the actual question i had!
So basically, even if you're willing to pay more than the average bidder, if you get sniped by someone who happens to be willing to pay more than you for a package, you're SOL, since you will have bid on only THAT package and lost it at the last seconds, with no chance at another one.
Does anyone have any sort of inside contact to alert them of this potential issue? I'm not trying to scam anything here, OR trying to get a package on the cheap -- in fact I think they'd make MORE money doing it the old way-- I just really don't want to miss out by losing to someone on one particular package in the last seconds! Please tell me someone else knows what I'm talking about.. and that my concern is actually legitimate? Or am I totally off base here?? I would think, doing it the way they are now, that they should be made into a dutch auction, considering it is the same product (for GA shows), and therefore only the highest bidders win, not those who happen to bid on packages others do not.
anyone?
anyone?

Nice "selective reading" by the folks @ Kompolt, eh?
I am on the same boat as you Krista, and honestly, my limit is $350, as I already put a $160 hit on my card for ORCH section tickets (which I am not selling until I get, if I get, a MYF lot).
We gotta get our strategy going people! |

| Yeah, this is crap for sure. I'm trying for Detroit, which I did last tour and got one of em. I'm not sure who changed the format/rules this time around, but it sure does not help the fans out. They cut the packages in half from like 26 to 13 and made them end at the same time??? What gives? I think they were a little embarrassed last time as no one ever bid on some packages and the one I won was at 150, because nobody bid against me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and won't bid again until the last few minutes as I've been outbid 4 times already. Very frustrated :-/ |

| Also and IOV'ers bidding on Detroit? If so lets try and pick packages to bid on so we're not bidding against each other if possible. Just a thought |

trip, to be honest, I don't think it is crap; I feel we are losing sight of the reason the VIP packages exist in the first place. What I mean is 13 is a lot easier to handle/manage not to mention give extra time to be intimate(which is a positive to each individual fan). And with only 13 packages, more money can be raised for charity if the demand is still high.
As much as we want to do this for our own selfish reasons and the fact that most of us cant afford to splurge, the cold hard truth is that this is intended for the people willing and able to donate to the charity and not for a fan to meet the band. That is just your reward.
Just my opinion. _________________ 2011 IOV Fantasy Football Champion

I see your point. I do realize how fortunate we are to be able to bid on these packages in the first place. So yeah I guess my complaints aren't so much that the whole situation sucks, but like a previous post said the way they end. I have no problem with them getting as much money for MYF as they can, heck I am happy for that. It's just more difficult this time around.
example:if my highest bid is 350 and I put it on one package and lose to a 355 bidder at the last second, but another goes for 200. I wouldn't get the chance to bid on that one, hence MYF gets less. Sorry if I came off the wrong way. |

No apologies needed and I see your point: If you are the second to highest bid on one package and another package goes way, way less for the same show; is that fair? _________________ 2011 IOV Fantasy Football Champion

Looking closely at the precise seconds that the Chicago auctions end, they all end the same minute but the difference between the first and last ones is almost a full minute (58 seconds), so I'm remaining hopeful. _________________

This is exactly what I was talking about. Seems as if they should be dutch auctions for shows that include GA tickets.
Has anyone else emailed them, through ebay or other means? Perhaps if more of us bring this issue to light they'll understand what I was trying to say and not just think I don't know how ebay works... _________________ You can be on the right track and still get hit by a train. |

Looks like they made them a bit further apart for this round... I can breathe much more easily now (actually woke up at 4am with it on my mind before I saw they changed it!)
How did everyone make out with the first round? _________________ You can be on the right track and still get hit by a train. |

They end tomorrow afternoon...I'm not worried at all about Indy but one of the Chicago pairs just shot up to $510....everything else is sitting between $225 and $300, hoping they stay there. _________________

Thanks Krista but I think I'm gonna be ok. I have the highest bid on two of the first pairs for Indy and Chicago and I have them open in respective internet windows along with about 7 other pairs in separate tabs. I chose ones that end around ten seconds apart so if I lose I can move on. Honestly I'm only worried about Chicago, I think I'll be ok w/ Indy.
Thanks though! This tour is gonna be lame without you! _________________
