A wicked awesome way to keep the MYF going forever...

here's an idea i've been mulling over...
what if, instead of incubus giving away the 1 million (assuming that they raise it) to various charities, they put it into a bank account, and give away the interest.
they, among others, could keep on making donations to this account, making the interest higher. and, because the interest would go to charities, the government wouldn't be able to get their greedy little hands on any of it.
maybe someone could present this idea to the band, or someone who has anything to do with the MYF...
anyways, just an idea of mine. any suggestions, comments, rants...?

I'm not exactly sure how much the interest would be, but I know I have a bank account with over 500 bucks in it, and I make like less than a dollar a year on interest. I don't feel like calculating it out, but even for a million dollars, how much money could it possibly be? And how would the gov still not get any of the interest if they would get it if they just gave the one mil away? I'm not too educated on banks and such but even if they were to put the money in a high interest account, like a CD, they wouldn't be able to touch it for years, and I don't know if that includes adding money to it. An interesting idea, but complicated and would need a lot more research before it would become a real possibility, they prob will just give the 1 mil away.

Well, the theory is good because you are thinking of a long time frame. But, I think you need to consider just what they are doing. They are helping many organizations and causes. So Say they end up helping 10 different charities with this money what would benefit each one more, having them roughly get a hundred thousand a piece in or have to split say ten thousand dollars each year. Would a charity benefit from getting a thousand dollars a year, or getting one-hundred thousand?

ah, i see where you guys are coming from...
but, the point is to keep on donating money...and they could get other bands in on it...and, when people put that much money into an account, the interest rates are negotiable...they could take it to many different banks, and try to get as much interest as possible.
an amount of money that high makes ALOT of interest...
but anyways, stay cool guys.

i think that they should just keep selling the vip packages each time they tour even though it's a pain for them to have to sign a million little cards and take a million pictures, i'd love to meet them again and It feels good to contribute to a good cause!

Interest on money in the bank accumulates very slowly, so basically if they wanted to help an organization, they would have to wait. A lot of Incubus Fans are doing what they can by purchasing the bootlegs and bidding on the items and VIP packages on Ebay. And even if they only did charity concerts that would keep the spirit of MYF alive. Yeah it does feel good to contribute to a good cause.
